Folktales about Holi: The Tale of Dhundhi

In a lesser known folktale from North India, there was an ogress named Dhundhi who terrorized the children of a village. Blessed with immunity from weapons and spells, she seemed invincible. But she had one weakness: mischief and noise. On Holi, the children gathered, singing, shouting and playing pranks, ultimately driving Dhundhi away.

This is why the festival of Holi also celebrates fun, laughter and harmless mischief.
